Team Webmaster : The Indonesian Ambassador to Mexico met with the Mexican Minister of Tourism, Miguel Torruco Marqués, June 4, 2024 at the Minister’s office to discuss cooperation in the tourism sector.

Therefore, Ambassador Cheppy T. Wartono expressed Indonesia’s desire to learn from Mexico in order to increase the number of tourists from Mexico to Indonesia and vice versa. For this reason, the Ambassador expressed his hope that the Ministry of Tourism could encourage the Mexican Government to simplify the visa process for Indonesian citizens who want to go to Mexico. Currently, Indonesians visiting Mexico are dominated by Indonesian citizens who live in the United States and have American or Schengen visas. In addition to visiting tourist attractions, several groups from Indonesia come to Mexico to do spiritual tourism to the Basílica de Santa María de Guadalupe.
In addition, the Ambassador also explained that there are several Indonesian restaurants in Mexico that show the interest of Mexican citizens in eating Indonesian cuisine. There is also a fairly large hotel management company headquartered in Jakarta that has managed several hotels in Mexico. In the future, the company in question wants to build a hotel in a tourist area in Mexico.
For the umbrella of cooperation between the two countries, the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the Governments in the field of tourism promotion is expected to continue to be extended.
The Mexican Minister of Tourism, accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, supported the idea of mutually increasing the number of tourists. Minister Marqués proposed holding a meeting between travel agents and stakeholders related to the two countries to prepare an attractive travel package.
At the end of the meeting, the Ambassador invited the Mexican Minister of Tourism to visit Indonesia. The Minister also said that he wanted to try Indonesian food and come to one of the Indonesian restaurants located near the Ministry of Tourism office in the Polanco area, Mexico City.
