What is Muscle Pain:

Muscle pain is a general term referring to a symptom or symptoms which arise as a result of a wide number of health conditions. Pain may be present in one specific area of a muscle such as when a muscle strain occurs, or be more widespread during viral infections such as the flu. Muscle pain can develop almost anywhere in your body, including your neck, back, legs and even your hands. Although it’s usually localized to one or a few muscles, it may be more widespread.


Symptoms of Muscle Pain:

Muscle pain can be a symptom of a serious disease, disorder or condition, such as a severe muscle tear or infection. Seek prompt medical care if your muscle pain is persistent, becoming worse, or causing you concern.

Causes of Muscle Pain:

The most common causes of muscle pain are tension, stress, overuse and minor injuries. This type of pain is usually localized, affecting just one muscle or part of your body. Systemic muscle pain, which you feel throughout your body, is different. It’s more often the result of an infection, an illness such as fibromyalgia or a medication and should be evaluated by your doctor.

Muscle Pain Remedies:

1. Do some stretching exercises to relax your muscles and to prevent further soreness.

2. Apply ice to the sore muscle as soon as it starts hurting. The ice can help reduce swelling and inflammation and may reduce pain.

3. Heat may also help relieve muscle pain. Take a warm bath or apply a heating pad. The heat can help increase blood flow to the painful muscle.

4. Getting adequate amounts of calcium in your diet may help curtail your cramps. Women, especially, seem to need plenty of calcium for muscle health. Three glasses of milk a day will meet the calcium needs of most adults.

5. Sipping some warm soup before heading out for a long bike ride may not sound appealing, but it may help you skip the muscle cramps.

6. Jump in a hot bath with Epsom salts to ease the pain of your strain. Epsom salts contain loads of magnesium that is absorbed through the skin. Magnesium helps promote the healing of torn muscles. Add 2 cups Epsom salts to a tub of hot water. It also relieves any swelling.

7. Eat a banana or two a day, and you may cut down your cramping. That’s because a potassium deficiency may be to blame for muscle cramps.

8. Resting is another obvious yet very important part of the healing of your muscle. The duration in which you should keep pressure away from your muscle depends on the intensity of the problem. A cramp may only need a few minutes of rest, while a severe strain may require weeks.
